VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Keep Sugar Land Beautiful seeks to involve all citizens in taking care of our community environment.   There is a way for everyone to get involved – people of all ages and abilities, families, students and student groups, businesses, service clubs, scout groups …. Well, everyone!  Contact us (active link here to info@kslb.org) or call the office at 281-313-5752 for more information.

Community Events - KSLB organizes events throughout the year to raise awareness of our environment.  Activities vary from event to event, so read on to find one that peaks your interest, then let us know how you’d like to help.

Christmas Tree Recycling – Each year, discarded Christmas trees are collected and ground into pine mulch that is free to residents.  Volunteers at this event prepare trees for grinding, bag mulch and work with residents who come to pick up mulch.

Arbor Day Poster Contest – Working in partnership with the National Arbor Day Foundation, the Texas Forest Service, Fort Bend ISD, Sterling McCall Automotive Group and the Sugar Land Garden Club,  5th graders participate in learning the value of trees in our communities.  One of the activities involves creating posters which are submitted for regional judging as part of the nation-wide contest.  In 2004, for the second year, Sterling McCall Automotive Group generously donated prizes for students and teachers who were involved in the contest.

Spring Trash Off – Hundreds of people work together to pick up litter around our community at this event.  We start off with a rally and breakfast at the Sugar Land Community Center, then volunteers go to assigned locations to collect trash.  There is something for everyone to do at this event – bring your family, your school group, your co-workers, or your scout group.  This is one of those events that makes you feel like you made a difference in your community!

Make a Difference Day – KSLB partners with the Fort Bend Education Foundation, Shared Dreams, the Lions Club and the Brookwood Community to observe Make a Difference Day in October.  This “national day of doing good’ is the largest single day of volunteering in our country.  This local activity involves a local Recycling For Reuse collection event – providing an opportunity for residents to care for someone else by recycling materials they no longer need, for reuse to improve the lives of others.  Volunteers help with collection, packing and distribution of materials.

BOPA (Battery, Oil, Paint, Antifreeze) Collection – At this event we collect batteries, paint, motor oil and filters as well as antifreeze.  The materials are recycled when possible and disposed of responsibly otherwise.  Volunteers hand out information, assess materials and help pack and load materials for transportation.

Fundraising Events - Funding for KSLB events, education and programs comes from a number of different sources, including our two annual fundraising events.  Visit (active link to Events page) for more information.

Annual Old West Sporting Clays Tournament – Enjoy a day of sport, a Bar-B-Q supper as well as a live and silent auction – in support of Keep Sugar Land Beautiful.  Volunteers needed to help with registration and event day activities.

Annual Bowl a Strike for KSLB tournament – Relax and have some fun with friends while enjoying an All American Sport.  Volunteers help with decorations and registration.

Help in the Office – There is always work to be done in the office – from preparing for events, to planning programs, to sending updates to our members.  If you enjoy office work, we’d love to have your help.

Provide InKind Services or Donations – KSLB relies on donations of food and materials for our outreach and fundraising events.  We also gratefully accept the donation of professional services in various aspects of our ongoing operations.
