7,038 pounds were diverted from the landfill thanks to our 2009 Earth Day Recycle Event. Keep Sugar Land Beautiful partnered with the City of Sugar Land, Shred It, the Fort Bend County Women's Center, and the Fort Bend County Recycle Center to collect items to be recycled and reused. Shred It shredded and recycled 150 boxes of paper – that's 2,980 pounds of paper that didn’t go to the landfill! In addition, we collected a partial box truck load of household items and clothing for the Fort Bend Women's Center and we recycled 3,229 pounds of electronics, 41 pounds of plastic, 12 pounds of aluminum, 21 cell phones, and 24 eyeglasses /eyeglass cases. Our 2010 Earth Day Recycle Event will be held on Saturday, April 24.
