To support Keep Sugar Land Beautiful programs
Whole Foods Market in Sugar Land has selected Keep Sugar Land Beautiful as the recipient of a Whole Foods Market Community Giving Day on Wednesday, April 24. Keep Sugar Land Beautiful will receive 5% of their net sales on this day.
Keep Sugar Land Beautiful would like to encourage everyone to shop at Whole Foods Market in Sugar Land on Wednesday, April 24, to support KSLB’s environmental programs and events that address recycling, reuse, waste reduction, litter prevention, beautification, reforestation, clean water, and water conservation. Keep Sugar Land Beautiful will also be in the store from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm so shoppers may learn more about our programs.
The mission of Keep Sugar Land Beautiful is to educate and engage everyone to take responsibility for the environmental health of our community.
Recycling Collection Event
Mercer Stadium, 16403 Lexington Blvd
Date: April 20 from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Items accepted will include household electronics, paper for shredding, clothing and household goods for reuse. The recycling collection event will follow these guidelines:
- Residents must remain in their vehicles at all times.
- Walk‐ups will not be accepted.
- City staff will remove items from vehicles.
- Residents will not be able to watch their documents get shredded.
- Containers used to transport items and papers will not be returned.
In addition, grant funds from the Houston ‐ Galveston Area Council and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality will allow residents to dispose of batteries, oil, paint, antifreeze and compact fluorescent light bulbs during the recycling event.

Date: April 20 from 2 p.m. – 6 p.m.
Interactive booths and performances are planned that will address recycling, waste reduction, clean water, water conservation, tree care, nature appreciation, and much more.
- Cell phones and eyeglasses will be accepted for recycling and reuse.
- There will be entertainment provided by EnviroGanza, the Non Toxic Band, and Texas Snakes & more.
- Winners for the Reduce Reuse Recycle & Rock Poetry Slam Contest will also be announced. Application forms for this contest will be accepted though April 6th and is open to students in grades k‐5.

Rules and Regulations:
The Reduce, Reuse, Recycle & Rock poetry slam contest is open to students in the following categories:
- Category I: K – 2nd Grade
- Category II: 3rd – 5th Grade
All poems must be original and related to Earth Day. The contest runs from March 5 – April 6. Entries received after April 6th will be disqualified.
Winners will be announced and prizes will be awarded on April 20th at the Reduce Reuse Recycle & Rock Earth Day Celebration on the Plaza in Sugar Land Town Square. Winners will be notified prior to April 20th and will have the opportunity to read their poems at a designated time during the event.
All submissions will be judged by the Keep Sugar Land Beautiful Youth Advisory Board and all decisions are final.
Application form must be completed and signed by a parent or guardian to be qualified.
Through submission of poetry, contestants and their legal guardians grant nonexclusive and publication rights to the works submitted.

Please donate gently used books for reuse
In celebration of America Recycles Day, Keep Sugar Land Beautiful (KSLB) will be at Whole Foods Market in Sugar Land on Tuesday, November 15, from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm, to answer your recycling questions and to collect gently used books for the Literacy Council of Fort Bend County. What may be recycled in your curbside cart? Where can you donate gently used items? Where can you recycle an old cell phone, TV, or computer? What should you do with leftover paint or cooking oil? Please make plans to join us – Don’t forget to bring gently used books for all ages!

Do you have some old books, glasses, or phones but don’t know what to do with them? Keep Sugar Land Beautiful will hold its 7th Annual Recycle for Reuse event on October 9, 2010 in partnership with the Fort Bend Education Foundation and the Fort Bend County Women’s Center. Please plan to donate your gently used items for reuse, including books, games, flash cards, DVDs, CDs, eyeglasses, hearing aids, hearing aid batteries, clothes, furniture, household items, and cell phones. Classroom items will be donated to Fort Bend ISD teachers. Eyeglasses, hearing aids and hearing aid batteries will be donated to the Lions Club. Furniture, clothing and household items will be donated to the Fort Bend Women’s Center.
Donors are asked to bring clean, gently used items to the Fort Bend ISD Administration Parking Lot at 16431 Lexington Blvd,Sugar Land from 10:00 AM until 1:00 PM on October 9, 2010. For more information, please visit www.kslb.org
