America Recycles Day

In celebration of America Recycles Day, Keep Sugar Land Beautiful (KSLB) will be at Whole Foods Market in Sugar Land on Tuesday, November 15, from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm, to answer your recycling questions and to collect gently used books for the Literacy Council of Fort Bend County. What may be recycled in your curbside cart? Where can you donate gently used items? Where can you recycle an old cell phone, TV, or computer? What should you do with leftover paint or cooking oil? Please make plans to join us – Don’t forget to bring gently used books for all ages!

Keep Sugar Land Beautiful (KSLB) is holding our 8th Annual Recycle for Reuse Event in partnership with the Fort Bend Education Foundation and the Fort Bend County Women’s Center. Classroom items will be donated to Fort Bend ISD teachers and household items will be donated to the Fort Bend Women’s Center. Cell phones will be responsibly recycled by Keep Sugar Land Beautiful and eyeglasses will be reused by Recycle for Sight.

Join us for Refreshments and Recycling Tips (Noon-2:00 pm)
Keep Sugar Land Beautiful (KSLB) in partnership with Whole Foods Market, Sugar Land, will collect gently used evening gowns, shoes, evening bags, and jewelry on Monday, November 15, for Texas Recycles Day. The collected items will be donated to the Cinderella/Cinderfella Project which helps selected students attend their Senior Prom.
The Keep Sugar Land Beautiful Youth Advisory Board members from Kempner and Clements high schools will also be collecting these items from students on their campus.
“Recycling and Refreshments” will be held from noon to 2:00 pm on November 15th. Whole Foods Market will provide delicious refreshments and Keep Sugar Land Beautiful will offer recycling tips and answer your recycling questions. What can be recycled in your curbside bin? Where can you donate gently used items? Where can you recycle an old cell phone, TV, or computer? What should you do with leftover paint or cooking oil? This is your chance to learn more about recycling in our community – please make plans to join us.

Recycle for Reuse Event Coming Soon

Do you have some old books, glasses, or phones but don’t know what to do with them? Keep Sugar Land Beautiful will hold its 7th Annual Recycle for Reuse event on October 9, 2010 in partnership with the Fort Bend Education Foundation and the Fort Bend County Women’s Center. Please plan to donate your gently used items for reuse, including books, games, flash cards, DVDs, CDs, eyeglasses, hearing aids, hearing aid batteries, clothes, furniture, household items, and cell phones. Classroom items will be donated to Fort Bend ISD teachers. Eyeglasses, hearing aids and hearing aid batteries will be donated to the Lions Club. Furniture, clothing and household items will be donated to the Fort Bend Women’s Center.
Donors are asked to bring clean, gently used items to the Fort Bend ISD Administration Parking Lot at 16431 Lexington Blvd,Sugar Land from 10:00 AM until 1:00 PM on October 9, 2010. For more information, please visit www.kslb.org
Recycling Tips and Refreshments

Keep Sugar Land Beautiful in partnership with Whole Foods Market invites you to join us for refreshments and recycling tips at the Whole Foods Market in Sugar Land on Saturday, March 6 at 1:00 pm. What can be recycled in your curbside bin? Where can you donate gently used items for reuse? Where can you recycle your cell phone or computer? This is the perfect opportunity to have your recycling questions answered – please plan to join us!
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Rock: Sugar Land Earth Day Celebration
5:00pm - 9:00pm

Recycling Collection Event – 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
(located in the parking lot adjacent to City Hall)
- Eagle Electronic Resources will be on-hand to collect household electronics such as TVs, VCRs, stereos, computers, printers, keyboards, scanners, cell phones, digital cameras, pagers and PDAs for recycling and reuse. Both working and non-working electronic equipment will be accepted free of charge from Sugar Land residents, and each resident participating in the electronics recycling event will be entered into a drawing for a FREE 42-inch TV.
- The Fort Bend County Women's Center will be in attendance to accept donations of clothing and household items for resale at the Fort Bend County Women's Center PennyWise Resale locations. The revenue from the sale of these donations will assist survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. The Fort Bend Seniors will also be on-hand to collect gently used items such as small electric appliances, bed linens, towels, blankets, and small tools for Fort Bend County senior citizens.
- Residents will also have the opportunity to bring their paper and media discs (CDs, DVDs, and floppy discs) for shredding by On-Site Shred, a document destruction company. Upon conclusion of the event, the shredded material will be recycled.
MYAC Environmental Activity Booths: 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The Mayor's Youth Advisory Council (MYAC) selected an environmentally themed service project this program year, and the organization has partnered with the City to host a series of environmental activity booths on the Plaza at Town Square during the performance by Vocal Trash. These activities will include face painting, arts and crafts, and a recycling game.
Performance by Vocal Trash: 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The City of Sugar Land and Keep Sugar Land Beautiful have partnered with Sugar Land Town Square and Republic Services to host a performance by Vocal Trash, a Texas-based group known for their unique combination of music, dance and comedy while utilizing recycled materials such as a gas can guitar and milk urn bass. The group has traveled all over the world performing at Earth Day events and state fairs, as well as private events for Corporations such as American Airlines and Cingular Wireless. Their performance appeals to all ages and will be a valuable addition to the Earth Day activities.

Earth Day Recycling Event
