Accomplishments
Each year, Keep Sugar Land Beautiful, its volunteers and community partners work diligently to maintain and enhance the beauty of Sugar Land.

GOVERNOR’S COMMUNITY ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

This prestigious award, a joint project of Keep Texas Beautiful and the Texas Department of Transportation, recognizes achievement in environmental excellence. KSLB was judged best in our population category for grass roots efforts that involve youth, local businesses, civic groups, and government in litter prevention and beautification.

Accompanying the award is a $130,000 landscape grant to be used to beautify a state right-of-way in the City of Sugar Land. The design of a plan to beautify the corner of US59 and Spur 41 along with adding trees to the esplanade of Spur 41 between US59 and Hwy 90A was approved by Sugar Land City Council in late 2003. Installation will occur with the rest of the US59 Phase 2 Landscape project estimated to begin in late 2004 or spring of 2005.

PLANET EARTH CART Project launched – Fall 2004

The Planet Earth Cart project is aimed at providing a number of environmental education materials to elementary schools across Fort Bend County.  Each mobile cart is stocked with books, games, videos, and hands on activities that can be incorporated into lesson plans by educators.  These carts will be sponsored by area businesses, organizations or individuals.
